sorry it's been so long.

Sorry I've been away for so long. The holidays were hectic, so I took a couple trips in early Jan. I took a week long trip up to New York City to visit friends, came back to Richmond for one night, then headed up to Washington D.C. to see my boyfriend and to enjoy the inauguration. It was pretty amazing. Theodore and I stood outside in the freezing temperatures for 6 hours to be a part of the festivities. We stood back by the Washington Monument. Yes, it was a mile away, but it was totally worth it. Being in the middle of millions of people was incredibly unreal. During the campaign, I went to two rallies for Obama. The one where Obama was actually present was absolutely amazing, and that was with only 15,000 people. There were over a million people at the inauguration. It was intense. On top of being able to go to the actual inauguration, we got to go to the art show Shepard Fairey put together called ManifestHope: DC. It was a really fantastic show, and Shepard Fairy was actually there, which was kind of neat. Below are some images from the show.

I graduated!

Sorry I've been away for so long. I spent Thanksgiving in Baltimore with my family. It was quite lovely. It has been a very stressful and hectic few weeks. I have had to finish up projects, including the dreaded independent study, 2 final exams, and textiles critique. I graduated from VCU with a Bachelors of Fine Arts on Saturday the 13th!!!!!! It was amazing!! I had my final crit for textiles today (yes, after I had already graduated) and walked out of the building jumping up and down in excitement!
For my graduation present, my mom and dad got together to get me this beauty! ah!!

washington d.c.

I am in Washington D.C. for the weekend, hence the non-postage. Theodore and I are celebrating our 4 year anniversary! Pretty exciting! We took a trip to Baltimore yesterday..roamed around Fells Point, then went to the Inner Harbor and the aquarium. Much fun was had! Oh!! and it snowed!!!! :)
Today I wandered around Georgetown while he had an event to go to. We met up for lunch at this cute French restaurant, very tasty. After hearing that Madame Tussaud's had $10 tickets, we decided to go there, since neither one of us had ever been to one. It was fun and a little bit creepy. Wonderful pictures to come. We got back to our side of town and ate dinner at our favorite Mexican restaurant, Cactus Cantina. Yum, yum, yum! They have the best chips and flour tortillas! nom! Anywho... I'll probably have a more meaningful post Monday or Tuesday night, so until then...

megan auman.

I came across Megan Auman's work today. It is very beautiful. I love the juxtaposition of organic and industrial. Her work explores images in textiles, such as floral designs. She uses steel along with accents of fine silver. I'm really drawn to the dark lines of the steel with little droplets of fine silver that really stand out. Check her out!

embroidery.

So, I think I'm going to start embroidering a lot more when I finish up with school. Two of my projects I am working on right now feature some embroidery, which is nice, but I want to do some serious embroidery (PORTRAITS!!!). It is really therapeutic for me. I can work on the stuff pretty much anywhere, which is quite nice.
Metal can be very stressful for me and that may have something to do with the fact that I must be in the school studio to work on stuff, and I don't really feel all that comfortable in there anymore. I don't feel like I have a place in that building this semester since I'm only taking one studio. I'm hoping that once I get a torch kit set up...wherever I will be, that I will be more relaxed when it comes to metal. I have so many ideas of things I want to do, but I can't get motivated to get into that studio.

Anywho, as soon as I get some batteries for my camera, I will take some shots of my works in progress!
